A retrospective exhibition of Maggie Shaw’s textiles, paintings and sketchbooks. Originally a textile artist, Maggie Shaw was a member of the Gloucestershire Guild of Craftsmen, and exhibited her contemporary textile work widely, including America, Japan, Germany and Spain. Finding that textiles were to some extent restrictive, she took up abstract painting. She took part in many solo and shared exhibitions and her sketch books were selected for the Sketch Drawing Prize 2011.
“ When I work I aim to paint the fundamental bare bones of the atmosphere – how we feel it rather than how we see it – capturing the light and the air along with the structures beneath our feet, to evoke an emotional response, using the minimum of marks the minimum of colour in order to achieve this. I want the results of my work to be paintings that are quietly absorbing.” Maggie Shaw
