An all new monthly event for The Goods Shed. "Round Up" sees Bristol group Ishmael Ensemble team up with d&b audiotechnik for a unique 360 degree soundscape experience. Each month will see a different headline act from the wider Jazz scene perform "in the round" for an intimate and innovative show.
We're delighted to announce the first act to join us will be British-Bahraini trumpet player and composer, Yazz Ahmed.
Through her music, she seeks to blur the lines between jazz and electronic sound design, bringing together the sounds of her mixed heritage in what has been described as ‘psychedelic Arabic jazz, intoxicating and compelling’.
Her career is studded with high profile collaborations, which have seen her record and perform with the likes of Radiohead, Lee Scratch Perry, ABC, Swing Out Sister, Joan as Police Woman, Tarek Yamani, Amel Zen including a world tour with These New Puritans. Most recently she appeared as guest soloist and composer with Arturo O’Farrill’s Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra.
October sees the release of Yazz Ahmed’s long anticipated third album, Polyhymnia, a grand work conceived as a message to the world about the history and growing empowerment of women. The album includes powerful tributes to noted women in history - Rosa Parks, Malala Yousafzai, Ruby Bridges, Haifa Al-Mansour, and BarbaraThompson. Rich in musical imagery, Polyhymnia explores the history of these women and their struggles and triumphs, evoking the universal human concepts of forgiveness, oppression, hopefulness, and power to overcome.
We couldn't think of a more exciting artist to kick things off. Hopefully see you there.
