Taking a cue from Walter Benjamin’s ‘Ragpicker', an historical character who sifted through dusty remains and redirected waste to useful ends on the streets of Paris, SVA-based artist Mair Hughes proposes we reimagine this character for today’s circumstances.
The Ragpicking event is an evening filled with the sounds of the accordion and historical film conjuring the iconic Ragpickers of the Parisian streets at the turn of the 20th century. There will be speakers & discussions around art practice and environmental thinking in considering the dreams and detritus of post-industrial cities & towns.
Ragpicking will be accordion music + film presented by SVA artist Mair Hughes. Guest speaker - Prof Kate Rigby (Environmental Humanities, Bath Spa Uni) Artists & Activists discussion including curator Patricia Brien, Lydia Halcrow, Fiona Campbell, Lou Baker, Angela Baum + Walking the Land Artists.
Donation at the door for SVA & costs.
