After the successful Red Thread Exhibition in Stroud last year, portrait photographer Emilie Sandy and Saori weaver Erna Janine continue to expand their portfolio of collaborative works with this new exhibition exploring the concept of the Inner Child through storytelling, textiles and photography. This work was partly co-created by the public of Stroud during the ‘We Are Community - Are We’ project at SVA in February 2022.
Previous collaborations by Emilie Sandy and Erna Janine included Sen’i [Transition] for the Japanese Textile and Craft Festival in London 2020, and Red Thread [Motherhood] in May 2021.
Emilie has been working as a professional portrait photographer for over 18 years. Her diverse background and childhood surrounded by artists and eccentrics in Iceland has lent itself to a photographic style that is entirely her own: poignant, elegant, feminine. Erna Janine is a Dutch hand weaver trained in Iceland and Japan. She runs Freeweaver Saori Studio in London and at the Centre for Science and Art in Stroud. Her main focus is community based creative textile projects and sustainably sourced yarns such as khadi cotton and forest silk.
