About John and his show:

My Car Plays Tapes is the new storytelling show by writer, theatre maker and Radio 4 regular John Osborne about minimum wage jobs,, cars that don’t work and being reunited with your old cassette collection. From the creator of John Peel’s Shed and Sky 1’s After Hours.

The show was performed at last summer’s Edinburgh festival with sell-out shows at Summerhall, and was well received with glowing reviews. My Car Plays Tapes is an hour of captivating storytelling, focussing on John’s life as a support worker and a nostalgic look at what happens when you listen to old tapes from the 1990s.

‘A charmingly idiosyncratic mix of wistfulness and wonder” ★★★★ The Stage

‘John’s story left me and my children spellbound and in tears’- Stewart Lee

About Gavin:

Gavin is a West Country-based humorous but heart-felt singer-songwriter. His minutely detailed, bittersweet story-songs have brilliant comic timing that makes them both funny and touching. He has written and performed joint shows with legendary storytelling comedian Daniel Kitson, he pops up on Radio 4 from time to time (providing the songs on Alun Cochrane's Fun House, for starters) and he's supported Belle and Sebastian. In 2020 he released a charity single called Born in the NHS, raising money for Bristol-based charity Above & Beyond.
