The Art of Balancing Dreams with Making the Bread and Butter

  • Stroud Valleys Artspace 4 John Street Stroud United Kingdom (map)

Stroud Film Festival

Tuesday 11th March

Doors 6.30pm / 6.45pm start

An evening of short film screenings, networking and discussion focused on how to thrive as a filmmaker during a time of change.

Hosted by local filmmaker Eoghan McDonaugh—alongside Nadia Attia from BFI NETWORK South West—who will run a ‘Connect & Collab’ speed-mixer for creatives to get to know each other and spark new ideas and projects.

Ever wondered how filmmakers balance creativity with the nitty-gritty of making a living? Or how they are adapting to an industry reshaped by streaming, AI, and the lingering effects of the pandemic? Want to connect with other film professionals in the region? This is your chance to find out and get involved.

We’ll showcase four stunning short films currently making waves on the festival circuit and hear firsthand from the filmmakers and creatives who brought them to life.

Through lively discussion, the panel will tackle the big questions facing today’s filmmakers:

How do we stay inspired in an age of constant change?

What are strategies for success?

What opportunities do emerging technologies offer for storytelling?

What is the current film funding landscape, and how do you navigate it?

Whether you’re an aspiring filmmaker, a seasoned pro, or just love great storytelling, this event offers a unique mix of inspiration, insight, and connection. Expect thought-provoking conversations, insider tips, and plenty of chances to meet like-minded creatives from across Stroud and the South.
