May Darbyshire (b. 1998, Gloucestershire) lives and works in London. Darbyshire graduated from Goldsmiths University of London with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art (2022).
Her work is an excavation into decorative pattern, textiles, the notion of repetition, text, line and colour. Pattern is a tool. Animal-like resemblances redirect our fleeting glimpses between the known and unknown, nostalgia and the imagination. She alights on such opportunities to connect us to this animist vision.
In Friend or Foe, Darbyshire experiments with interactive ways of displaying work. Her playful installation challenges our subconscious symbolisms, animating both familiarity and curiosity, which the work invites you to explore.
