Saturday 28th - Sunday 30th April 10am-3pm
Public opening night: Friday 28th April 6-8pm
Comedy performance: Sunday 30th April 7.30pm: Jonny Fluffypunk: If we just keep going, we will get there in the end
SVA John St Gallery
Writer, performer and- now- ‘mixed-media artist’ Jonny Fluffypunk explores the tricky issue of Getting Over Stuff. During the pandemic, Jonny’s childhood home was sold and his dad went into a care home.
“I'm busy getting stuff together for my residency/exhibition/installation/whatever at the SVA John St Gallery. THIS WEEKEND!
The dog is employed as mop for spilled paint.
LOSING IT is an attempt at a lo-fi DIY ramshackle arty 'closure ritual', by someone with no training in art, ritual, or getting closure. Upheavals happen. We lose people and places and things and we don't really give ourselves time to process stuff, and we don't know HOW TO. Well I don't, anyway. The self-help books talk about 'letting go', but what the hell does that even mean?
In the lockdown I lost my dad to deepening Alzheimers, and then my childhood home, just as the world itself lost the plot.
I never 'mark' anything. I never 'honour' these big changes. I'm just not organized enough, and my ADHD means even if I try to, I'll just get distracted and end up sorting out my pens or something. But this time I'm determined to. Over a weekend.
And you are invited to share your losses too. And to let a 70 year old tinplate train- The Lost Express- take them off toward some sort of ...well, whatever.
Its light hearted, but its human. My mum couldnt stand people who take themselves too seriously, so a lot of my work here looks like it's taking the piss. I mean, it IS taking the piss, but it's done with heart and affection.
It will be open this Saturday and Sunday 10-3, with a launch thingy with wine and stuff Fri evening.
I'll be there, continuously making new pieces as part of this 'letting go' ritual. Splurging with intent. Short, sharp, rough art. Get it out.
I will do a 10 minute performance on the hour, every hour.”
