All the Being and the Doing: Making Mothers Visible is a celebration of mothers’ creativity. This exhibition brings together a selection of creative journaling work by participants of Maternal Journal circles held by Stroud Motherhood Collective since September 2023. It highlights the vital need for self expression, exploration of feelings and peer support throughout all stages of parenthood but particularly the early years of becoming a mother.
Journaling is known to improve wellbeing, and with this in mind, Maternal Journal groups provide a space for mothers to connect, create and share in a non judgemental environment. Taking our pages from the private journal space into the public realm of an art gallery is a radical act. By doing so we aim to break down barriers to talking about mothers’ mental health and cultivate a space to reflect openly on experiences of parenting. We welcome visitors to create and share in the gallery with us at our communal journaling table.
