Today : 366 drawings - Nicola Grellier

  • SVA 4 John Street Stroud, England, GL5 2HA United Kingdom (map)

From June 1st 2019 Nick Grellier made one small drawing every day for an intense and perplexing year.  Via the transitory state of ‘today’ the drawings meander through personal experience and collective concerns, with shapes, marks, text and figures staging physical touch, habits, communication and human relationships. They were posted daily on Instagram with a running commentary of titles, hashtags and interactions which were often humorous and sometimes sad.

The drawings will be shown in their entirety at SVA Oct 2-18 2020.

Nick Grellier will hold a two-part discussion during the 2 weeks with Emily Lucas who is currently researching a PhD “Why artists draw : an interrogation of drawing as a subjective, autobiographical and emotional act." Nick Grellier is participating as one of the artists in her study and the discussions in the recorded sessions will take place at the start and towards the close of the exhibition. Their discussions  will play alongside a slideshow of the drawings during opening hours. Visitors are invited to contribute comments about the drawings and discussion.

Nick will work in the gallery during the 2 weeks and visitors will be invited to contribute to a communal drawing on the theme of TODAY.

There is a limited edition book of the sketches for sale. Plus the accompanying art book “TODAY 285 of 366 drawings/collage made between 1/6/19 and 31/5/30”. It includes an extract from ‘Cheer Up, Love’ Nick Grellier and intro by Jean Taylor (AKA Roy Voss).

Limited signed edition of 200. Copies available throughout the exhibition but contact Nick if you would like to order a copy.
