Jazz Stroud - DJs

Sunday 25th May 9pm - 1am

Founded more than 10 years ago, East London's much-beloved Tropical Yard club makes its debut appearance outside of the capital to close this year's Jazz Stroud weekend on Sunday night. Focusing broadly on  Afro-Latin sounds, all played from original vinyl, expect to hear intense, frenetic and hypnotic rhythms from the Americas, the Caribbean, Africa and beyond.

In attendance will be all 3 of Tropical Yard's resident DJs: – Lady Kamikaze, Duncan Brooker and Liam Large for the first time at SVA John street.

Lady Kamikaze aka El Tomo, the night's founder and now a veteran of London's alternative, counter-cultural night scene, having been resident at the wildly influential vintage music and burlesque club, Lady Luck, before going on to launch other important events such as the Black Cotton Club.

Duncan Brooker, pioneering DJ and archivist of African music, who drew much attention to the sound of African funk of the 1970s with his legendary, self-released Afro-Rock compilation, before going on to compile tons of landmark releases for labels such as Honest Jons (eg London Is The Place For Me), and Strut (Nigeria 70 etc).

Liam Large, long-time DJ, founder of the Jukebox Jam club, who works for Jazzman records putting together various compilations, notably the well-loved Jukebox Mambo series. Like Duncan, regularly travels the globe in pursuit of new sounds.
