The Other Way was hatched in the brain sockets of Billie Bottle and Rowan Porteous while on tour with Gifford’s Circus. It grew out of mildly delirious discussions in caravans over fish and chips, which neither of them can remember. To aid understanding, it became necessary to enlist Emma Holbrook and Max Findlay.
Features Billie’s incredible vocals and keyboard, as heard in Mike Westbrook’s Uncommon Orchestra, trumpet and loops, sampling and bird tweets by Rowan Porteous (Baraka, The Hipcats), and tight grooves by Max and Emma on bass and drums.
The Other Way is eco-centric soul jazz hop-for the heart. It is music for holding hands as we stare into the void. It is the funeral music for life itself and a blind leap into the eternal joy of the cosmos. It is also funky.
DJs will be warming up for the John Street Social at 6pm (tickets not required), and the door charge will start from 8pm.
