Manchester based composer, arranger and band-leader Matthew Halsall has carved out a niche for himself as one of the UK’s brightest talents. His soulful, unflashy trumpet playing floats over a sound that draws on the heritage of British jazz, the spiritual jazz of Alice Coltrane and Pharoah Sanders, world music and electronica influences. Music that is rooted in Northern England but draws on global inspirations. His label, Gondwana Records, is home to the likes of Dwight Trible, Portico Quartet and Mammal Hands.
Expect music from his sublime back catalogue, together with unexpected covers and new compositions as Halsall and his colleagues explore spiritual and progressive, soulful jazz sounds for the 21st century.
