Fine artist, Albie Lucas takes residence in the gallery, producing a series of drawings and paintings. “I focus on what it’s like to be living, not pulling any punches with it, not glorifying any happiness or sadness, each are the same.”
Over the past year Albie has started a new body of work. In this residency he will reflect on memories growing up around Stroud. During his time in the gallery, he will create an immersive installation.
Albie on his work:
"In my drawings I aim to depict feelings and emotions that lie beneath the surface, to capture people as they really are, not posed in a photograph or putting on a front, but depictions that show what is going on in their inner lives – perhaps fear, uncertainty, boredom, unhappiness or dissatisfaction, but often a shared experience can turn these feelings into bittersweet joy.
All my work deals with personal experience, including recent explorations into toxic masculinity.”
