Rowan studied painting at the Royal Drawing School and knitting at Chelsea College of Art. She likes making clothes not necessarily as things for being worn on bodies but as unfilled artifacts of what bodies might be like.
Some of the work she brings to Stroud Valleys Artspace is from her degree show, How To Dress for English Weather, and some is made since graduating and responding to new more varied stimuli and less focussed working conditions.
All of it deals with human’s relationship with place, movement, built and natural environments, and the role clothes can play in revering and maybe manipulating this relationship.
