Penny Gaff Special: Robin Ince & Clare Ferguson-Walker
Wednesday 13th November 7.30pm
Roll up!Roll Up! For a midweek don’t-worry-we-finish early slice of joy...
Mr Fluffypunk’s Penny Gaff presents an evening of poetry, comedy, anecdotes, banter and general silliness and overtalking from two marvellous minds- ROBIN INCE and CLARE FERGUSON-WALKER.
This is a Penny Gaff midweek special! Just Robin & Clare’s show. Two comedian-poets, two armchairs, two halves of 45 mins, and you can get to bed early with your soul lifted and your mind tickled.
ROBIN INCE
Robin Ince is best known as the host of the Radio 4 series The Infinite Monkey Cage with Brian Cox, now on its 29th series! They have been on three international arena tours, during which Robin performed his poetry in front of 14,000 people at the London O2.
As well as being one of the UK’s most respected, interesting and interested stand-up comedians, Robin also created The Book Club, which combined music, comedy, poetry and, within a year, science. And then later the Cosmic Shambles Network co-curated with Josie Long and others, a delightfully ramshackle and rambling hub of live shows, podcasts, apps, documentaries and- oh, all sorts of other stuff.
He was also awarded Author of the Year by The Booksellers’ Association in 2022.
He has written books including Bibliomaniac, the Importance of Being Interested, I’m a Joke and So Are You and his next, Normally Weird and Weirdly Normal is out October 2024.
He beat John Cooper Clarke on Pointless Celebrities, but it was a close run thing.
His most recent live show, MELONS, included punching a melon until it exploded, but he cannot promise such things here.
CLARE FERGUSON-WALKER
CLARE IS UNIQUE. She is an award winning poet, comedienne, sculptor and singer, and we can’t find anyone else who combines all these.
A firm favourite on stages across the country, and a regular headliner and comedy and poetry nights in her own right, Clare is also a regular special touring guest with the legendary “Guv’nor of UK stand up poetry”, Dr John Cooper Clarke, who incisively describes her as ‘funny as fuck’.
Clare’s explosive second poetry collection “Chrysalis” Published by Clockwork Moth, lays bare her soul and takes the reader on an intimate journey laced with humour and intelligent humane observation.
“Hilarious, touching and incredibly clever” - Metro
“I don’t know how Clare can get up on stage and be so effortlessly funny and engaging, I love her stuff” - Brian Bilston
“Absurdly Talented” - Phill Jupitus
Her debut spoken word show “California Scheming” toured the UK to rave reviews, and her sculptures have gained her international recognition, with shows in Japan, LA and San Francisco. Her work appears in public and private collections all over the world and she was recently named in the Times as “one of the U.K’s leading female sculptors.”
As a singer, Clare is currently working with legendary producer Craig Leon on their debut collaboration.
