Sam Amidon

Amidon is an American folk artist whose music ranges in theme from interpretations of traditional Irish fiddle pieces to old-time melodies and tales from traditional American folk history. His albums draw on old work songs, ballads, hymns and other sonic artefacts from the past, reimagining them in bold, creative new ways to breathe new life into them and recontextualising them alongside original compositions.

Sam Amidon's self-titled album released on Nonesuch Records in 2020 was the fullest realization to date of his artistic vision, comprising his radical reworkings of nine mostly traditional folk songs, performed with his band of longtime friends and collaborators.

Merope

A prime example of Lithuanian folk influences finding a firm place in the worldwide ocean of experimental world sounds, Merope’s unique atmospheric aesthetic weaves together elements of electronic, ambient, indie and traditional music into a soundscape that is at once local and universal. It represents a very contemporary understanding of the shared roots of all musical creation, and promotes a pursuit of transcultural unity that escapes narrow-minded cultural seclusion. Aside from music, Merope also addresses other global concerns such as the state of the ecosystem and our reliance on energy, for instance, they recorded their debut album in a natural setting in Spain using only solar power. This commitment to harmony in all its aspects makes their work deeply resonant in today’s international community in search of its roots.
