During his time in the gallery, Archie will develop samples that he’s made at Stroud College by exploring scale. He will explore his 2d and 3d pieces work while considering themes of connection to nature and the organic forms.

Fine artist, Albie Lucas takes residence in the gallery, producing a series of drawings and paintings. “I focus on what it’s like to be living, not pulling any punches with it, not glorifying any happiness or sadness, each are the same.”

Periscope (artists Alison Cockcroft and Emily Joy) will transform the gallery into a space for participation and collaboration, an open access workshop and thinking space for everyone.

Dangervitch & Neptune share their latest take on the world in the form of massive weird paintings. Their time in the gallery will see both the display and creation of new works.

Q takes residency in the gallery, following solo wild camping on the West Coast of Ireland. He will be showing and exploring drawings which explore the OUTSIDE - having time to explore the INSIDE. The act of drawing when you feel you want to, with what you have.

For this residency Greer will be focusing on developing some large tissue paper and gel cutouts - building window based surprises and layers. Plus Kids free drop-in workshops Sat 18th & Sun 19th 2-4pm.

Witness a surreal social commentary, as duo Dangervitch and Neptune challenge the boundaries of normality and encourage open-mindedness via time-based media. The pair often utilise reverse psychology both visually and conceptually within their work in attempt to promote a more imaginative way of thinking. Find their work during this year’s Site Festival, where their SVA Studio will be open to the public for two weekends. This exhibition and film is part of a series, which is offering space and time to young artists to make and show new work in the gallery.

Stroud’s Mucky and Wonderful Commons

10th - 15th May

Renowned performance artist Richard Layzell returns to Stroud this May. He will be found exploring, investigating and probing the boundaries of the extensive common land that surrounds the town. What secrets are there hidden in the commons? Finding out can be a mucky business.

The fleeting glimpse of something in the corner of your eye. Half- realised, not fully understood. The image can lie dormant, returned and at some point can trigger animation. The space will be used for an installation.

Ella Clifton-Gould and Darcie Kemp are two female artists originally from Stroud, both currently studying art and fashion in London and Manchester. Ella and Darcie will be presenting an unseen, new and exciting series of performances, 'Night Time Raiders' at SVA gallery space. A long overdue collaboration, after admiring each other's work from afar, producing a series of performances combining Clifton-Gould's love for snails and Kemp's love for flowers. These works will be exploring performance, sound, visuals, story telling, costume, props and play.

Drawing is an accessible and dynamic artform because it doesn’t require vast amounts of space or resources. During this residency we aim to explore the possibilities of collaborative drawing by experimenting with size, medium and subject matter.

Using relics from childhood as tools for storytelling, Tanith Mab and Isobel Harper navigate the exponential acceleration of the world. In a period where nostalgia is more rife than ever, with both positive and negative repercussion, they reflect on the pop culture they grew up with.

Kes Wilkie graduated from Falmouth School of Art in 2019, where he began making kinetic sculptures involving various objects such as parachutes, conveyor belts and household fans to build upon ideas and scenarios found in existing cinema and poetry.

Millie Steele graduated from the University of Gloucestershire in 2017 and has since been working as a 3D Artist Technician. Her sculptures and installations are concerned with the notion of time and coincidence. She manipulates everyday objects to radically shift their meaning, often highlighting human issues and fears for the future.

Daisy Timpson is a second year Fashion Photography student, studying at London College of Fashion. Focusing mainly on portrait photography although she also enjoys collaging and manipulating her photographs with mixed media. Working mostly with 35mm film on a point and shoot camera, taking it everywhere with her to document the people and places she encounters.

A surreal celebration of humour, ceremony, the land and its stranger beings. The exhibition will showcase work of multi-media artist Moina Moin and her frequent collaborators - Mermaid Chunky, Milbo Couture, Junk Baby and Mould Collective.
